I'm delighted to welcome the author here to Random Things today as part of the #RandomThingsTours blog tour. She's sharing Ten (random) things about herself!

10 (random) things about Rachel Abbott

1.     I was born and brought up in Manchester, and now live in Alderney in the Channel Islands in a Victorian fort.

2.     My office is in a Victorian gunpowder shelter in the grounds of our home.

3.     Between leaving Manchester and moving to Alderney we lived in Italy for a few years where we restored an old (small) monastery.

4.     I started my working life with no clear direction, having decided not to take up a place at university (Bangor, in North Wales). But in my late 20s I decided to train as a systems analyst. I loved it, and it was only a few years later that I formed my own software company.

5.     I used to sing as part of a folk duo, and we made an album. Until recently, a couple of tracks were available on Spotify, but thankfully they have now disappeared.

6.     My favourite holiday of all time was a couple of years ago when we went to Antarctica. An amazing place, and the penguins were a delight to watch, as were the whales.

7.     I did two parachute jumps for charity, and ended up in hospital after the second one (only a bad sprain, though).

8.     My favourite novel of all time is Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier. Despite that, at a recent quiz I wrote down the housekeeper’s name as Mrs Danby instead of Mrs Danvers. The shame of it!

9.     We love German Shepherds and have just got a new puppy called Coco (absolutely adorable).

10.  I can recite the alphabet backwards as quick as I can forwards. It’s my one and only party trick.
