Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes #SomeoneElsesShoes @jojomoyes @MichaelJBooks #BookReview

Who are you when you are forced to walk in someone else's shoes?

Meet Sam . . .

She's not got much, but she's grateful for what she has: a job she's just about clinging on to and a family who depend on her for everything. She knows she's one bad day away from losing it all - and just hopes today isn't it . . .

Meet Nisha . . .

She's got everything she always dreamed of - and more: a phenomenally rich husband; an international lifestyle; and . . . she's just been locked out of all of it after her husband initiates divorce proceedings . . .

Sam and Nisha should never have crossed paths. But after a bag mix-up at the gym, their lives become intertwined - even as they spiral out of control.

Each blames the other as they feel increasingly invisible, forgotten, lost - and desperately alone.

But they're not.

No woman is an island. Look around. Family. Friends. Strangers.

Even the woman you believe just ruined your life might turn out to be your best friend.

Because together you can do anything - like take back what is yours . . .

Someone Else's Shoes by Jojo Moyes is published on 2 February 2023 in hardback by Michael Joseph. My thanks to the publisher who sent my copy for review.

A version of this review was published in the Express, S Magazine on Sunday 29 January 2023

Nisha and Sam; two women from the opposite ends of life. Both are middle-aged, mothers and wives, but the similarities end just there. Nisha’s husband is incredibly wealthy, she’s his trophy wife, always perfectly groomed. Sam enjoys her work, but is battling with new management who seem to have taken a dislike to her, her husband has been made redundant and spends every day in his pyjamas. Her elderly parents expect her to be at their beck and call.

When Nisha and Sam accidentally take each other’s gym bags after a morning work- out, their lives take an unexpected path. Nisha discovers that she no longer has access to her bank account, her husband has a newer, younger woman. Sam discovers that wearing the bright red designer shoes from the bag make her feel a little different; taller, more exciting and braver.

Their lives collide as Nisha is desperate to get her bag, and shoes back whilst Sam is unaware just how important they are.

Cleaning toilets for minimum pay in the exact hotel that she was previously a guest in was never something that Nisha imagined she’d do. However, needs must and it’s here that she discovers true friendship. She discovers that money and glamour is not everything, and the loyalty and love gained from friends really do mean far more.

This is a warm, uplifting story, filled with humour and wit but also deals with serious issues that most women will relate to. The characters are a joy to discover, despite their flaws, they are so realistic. Another winner from this fabulous author.
