The Angel by Katerina Diamond @TheVenomousPen @AvonBooksUK #BlogTour #TheAngel

THE TRUTH WON’T STAY LOCKED UP FOREVER
When a burned body is found in a disused signal box, suspicion falls on lonely teenager Gabriel Webb. There’s no doubt he was at the scene of the crime, but does he really deserve what awaits him in prison?
DS Imogen Grey is certain there’s more to the case than meets the eye. But while she struggles to convince those around her of the truth, her partner DS Adrian Miles is distracted by his own demons.
When a brutal double murder is reported, their investigation is stopped in its tracks. Is the body in the box even who they thought it was? The duo realise Gabriel might have been locked up for a crime he didn’t commit. But with enemies watching Gabriel’s every move, they may be too late.

I am delighted to host the Blog Tour for The Angel by Katerina Diamond, published in paperback by Avon Books on 21 September 2017.  My thanks to the publisher who sent my copy for review.

The Angel is the third in Katerina Diamond's series featuring DS Imogen Grey and DS Adrian Miles, whilst I do own the previous two books, I've not yet read them. However, after reading and devouring The Angel, I've slapped myself around a little bit and asked myself WHY?  This is an amazing story, I was pulled in from the opening paragraph and read frantically, right to the end.

Katerina Diamond is just my sort of author. Her writing is fast paced, her characters are totally realistic and the plot has more twists and turns than Snake Pass.

DS Grey and DS Miles are intriguing characters, it's obvious that they both have complicated back stories and whilst the author does make reference to them, I realise that I need to go back and read the previous books to understand exactly why they are like they are. However, please don't let this put you off, The Angel is perfectly readable as a stand alone; the plot is the key, and what a plot it is.

There are multiple threads to this story; we know about an adulterous wife and a baby that stopped breathing; there's a fire in a disused signal box in which a man dies, and there's a particularly horrific double murder. All seemingly unrelated, but as the story unwinds, the connections begin to appear.

There are scenes of violence and brutality, and whilst this is hard hitting, it's totally in keeping with the story. The scenes set in the prison are particularly well written, with an air of tension and darkness that is both gripping and terrifying.

If you are a fan of sharp, wonderfully assured writing and stories that seize you in a tight tight grip, then you will love The Angel. Clever, shocking and gripping. I loved it.
