Anyone who reads my blog will know that I've been a huge fan of Tammy Cohen ever since I read her first book. Her writing is superb and she's up there as one of my all time favourite authors, every single one of her books is excellent, although I admit I do have a soft spot for her first: The Mistress's Revenge, published back in 2011.
I was really excited to find out that this author had contributed to the Quick Reads collection for 2018, I read these every year and think they are a wonderful idea; for new readers and those who just don't have the time or the concentration to sit down and read a full length novel.
I absolutely consumed Clean Break in one fell swoop. Tammy Cohen's writes with a deliciously devilish wit and dark humour. I was talking about Clean Break to someone on Twitter who described it as similar to Tales of The Unexpected, and yes, that's exactly what it is. A tense, thrilling little story that takes the reader round many an unexpected twist and then smacks them bang! right in the face at the very last turn.
Clean Break is the story of the not-so-clean break up a marriage. Kate and her husband Jack really are obviously not suited and Kate is determined that this is the end of their relationship. Jack, on the other hand, is finding it very difficult to let go. He's obsessed and he's angry, and he gets angrier when he realises that Kate hasn't exactly been honest about why she wants their marriage to end.
Spine chilling and tense at times, with an underlying hint of darkness and devilment, this really is quite the perfect story.
