The Christmas Promise by Sue Moorcroft @SueMoorcroft @AvonBooksUK

On a snowy December evening, Sam Jermyn steps into the life of bespoke hat maker Ava. Sparks fly, and not necessarily the good ones.
Times are tough for Ava – she’s struggling to make ends meet, her ex-boyfriend is a bully, and worst of all, it’s nearly Christmas.
So when Sam commissions Ava to make a hat for someone special, she makes a promise that will change her life. She just doesn’t know it yet…

The Christmas Promise by Sue Moorcoft was published in paperback on 1 December 2016 by Avon Books.

I have to admit that I rarely read Christmas themed books, however, I was having a lazy afternoon, it was chilly and wet outside and The Christmas Promise beckoned. It fitted well with my mood, and I spend an enjoyable afternoon getting to know Ava, Sam and the accompanying characters that are central to this very well-written story.

Sue Moorcroft has very cleverly incorporated some very up-to-minute and relevant issues into The Christmas Promise, and whilst it does have a love-story at its heart, it is the more gritty elements of the plot that really captured my imagination.

Serious illness, online revenge porn and the cut and thrust of small business are not issues that one would expect to find within the pages of a book with such a feel-good cover.  However, each of these are covered, and covered very well. Sue Moorcroft has very obviously researched her subject matter in detail and her plotting and the character's experiences are frightening realistic.

Don't get me wrong, The Christmas Promise is certainly not all serious doom and gloom, it is also a warm and emotional read with characters who are a joy to discover and a story line that contains humour and a real feel for the festive season.

The Christmas Promise surprised me. It has depth and feeling and lots of of warmth. An easy to read and entertaining story.

My thanks to the publisher who sent my copy for review.

Bestselling author Sue Moorcroft writes women's contemporary fiction with sometimes unexpected
themes. Her new book, The Christmas Promise, was published by Avon Books UK (ebook 6 October 2016, paperback and audio 1 December 2016) and reached the UK Kindle Top Ten. It also did well in the mass market paperback chart in Germany (WinterZauberKüsse).

Sue's books have won the Best Romantic Read Award and been nominated for a RoNA. Sue is a Katie Fforde Bursary winner. She also writes short stories, serials, articles, columns, courses and writing 'how to'.

Born in Germany, her parents both having served in the army, Sue then lived in Cyprus, Malta and the UK. She's worked in a bank, as a bookkeeper (probably a mistake), as a copytaker for Motor Cycle News and for a typesetter, but is pleased to have wriggled out of all 'proper jobs'.
